about

Time theft (or “clock-riding”) is a long-standing tradition among the working class that arguably pre-dates the labor union movement of the early 20th century. It is the first and most basic line of defense against the tyranny of the corporate clock. You’ll only be alive so long, so why not make something of it? Why not steal away that time and in so doing tell the story of your circumstances? “The oppressed classes make history in the factories, in the barracks, in the villages, on the streets of the cities. Moreover, they are least of all accustomed to write things down.” Culture is hardly the place is to stoke the fires of revolution—as the last 50-60yrs have proven—but maybe it can, in some small way, keep the coals glowing.

Sourced from recordings made covertly in and around the food industry, Time Theft is the first physical release by Job History, . It traces the contours of work spaces with desperate footfalls. It atomizes the howling condensers of walk-ins. It bends and warps to make the edges catch the light.
